A new entrepreneurship program for young people is being launched at The Bridge Youth Centre in Peterborough.
The program is called Entrepreneurs Unlimited (The Bridge is officially called Peterborough and Kawartha Youth Unlimited).
The centre offers programs for disadvantaged teens. Jennifer Kloosterman, the director there, is teaming up with Nic Cunningham of Economic Development Consultants to offer the new program.
The idea is to help The Bridge’s young people - many of whom live in the city’s downtown - to launch their own businesses.
“We have already spoken to several young people, and already several have expressed an interest in setting up their own ventures,” states Cunningham in a press release.
Many of the young people at The Bridge come from low-income families, and Cunningham says the idea is to help them create their own business opportunities.
When they start their own businesses, states Cunningham, they will get more than an income.
“This will also create a sense of value and dignity within our community.”
